If the father is unavailable, the DNA test can still be done. Read more to find out how.
Testing With Other Relatives of the Alleged Father
If the father is unavailable, the DNA test can be done with the mother, father, siblings or other children of the alleged father.
Testing With Non-Standard Samples
The test can be done using non-standard samples such as fingernail clippings, blood on tissue or gauze, hair from the root or a toothbrush, from the alleged father. If using non-standard samples is the only option, we work with our clients to determine the best sample possible for each situation. A viability test must be done on non-standard samples to determine if the sample is sufficient. This will increase the timeline for results.
Testing When the Alleged Father is Deceased
If the father is deceased, the DNA test can still be done with the alleged deceased father and child. A legal (chain of custody) DNA test must be done, requiring the consent of the alleged father's next of kin.
